Bowerley Cottages in the Dales
Langcliffe
Langcliffe itself is a lovely example of an unspoilt Dales
village with church, school and post-office/shop arranged around
the quintessential village green. Rows of tiny one bedroom stone
cottages nestle comfortably alongside the larger farmhouses and
the splendid Langcliffe Hall. The surrounding high fells, criss-crossed
with an intricate weave of dry-stone walls and dotted with grazing
sheep, provide a glorious backdrop to the tranquil setting.
Settle
Settle (www.settle.org.uk)-
close enough to walk and far enough to forget – has a wide range
of good shops, cafes restaurants and pubs ranged around a busy
market square. It provides a focal point for the living working
community of the Dales and is a magnet for its many visitors especially
on Tuesday market days.
The Yorkshire Dales
From their superb location on the threshold of the Yorkshire
Dales National Park (www.yorkshiredales.org.uk)
Bowerley Cottages is the perfect place from which to explore the
beauty of the Dales. Ribblesdale is dominated by the Three Peaks
Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside. If you are really fit you
could walk the three in a day but most people satisfy themselves
with just one.
The unique and breathtaking vistas
of the Lake District National Park are just an hour drive away.
The west coast seaside resort of Morecambe is a similar distance.
To the east York and the North York Moors beyond are an easy day
trip.
The Yorkshire Dales have long been the favourite haunt of walkers,
climbers, cavers, cyclists and fishermen but you don’t have to
be the energetic sort to enjoy a stay at the Bowerley Cottages.
Fascinating market towns and secluded villages; craft centres
and museums of local life provide countless hours of absorbing
pleasure. Above all, whatever your inclination, this is a place
to unwind and restore perspectives. Rugged hills, dry-stone walls,
fast flowing rivers and crashing waterfalls form a perfect environment
in which to rediscover oneself.
